Minnesota Breakfast on the Farm

Breakfast on the Farm are great events to attend. Not only do you get out on the farm and meet real farmers, but there is education, entertainment, history and great food!

Our county just completed our first ever Breakfast on the Farm in Martin County. There were nearly 500 people in attendance. We served pancakes (provided by our local Lions Club) sausage, bacon and bananas along with milk.

Typically, you think about Breakfast on the Farm in areas where there are dairy farms. Yes, our county has two, but we decided we could \”reinvent\” what breakfast on the farm is. We brought the cow to the farm. Being in Martin County, we had sausage and bacon as the county is the number one for hog production in Minnesota.

Our weather was fantastic. We had a lot of activities and yes, we had Princess, the dairy cow. People were allowed to milk her and they loved it.. Along with these activities, we had a hayride and other farm animals.

There were several Ag in the Classroom activities for kids to partake in. They could do the Living Plant Necklace, Garden in a Glove, Make Butter, or Make Feed Bags.

Perhaps the most interesting experience was the chance to milk a cow. Many enjoyed it!

Princess Kay of the Milky Way was gracious to join us. She read a book and talked with the participants.
